Obituary of Kathleen McGrath

Kathleen McGrath (74) of East Durham, NY passed away at the Joe Rasso Hospice Facility in New City, NY on Aug. 12, 2014. She was born in County Roscommon, Ireland on Dec. 9, 1939 daughter of the late Patrick & Mary (Lannon) McGrath. Kathleen and her husband "Mattie" established Kerry's corner Pub in 1967 and made it a successful business. In 1975 they moved to East Durham and purchased the Edgewood Falls Farm. They started late night Irish Breakfast. Through the years, and many a late night with a wide variety of Irish musicians and the help of family and friends, they became a landmark of East Durham. After the death of her husband Mattie McGrath, Kathleen and her family came together to ensure the success and longevity of McGrath's. At the age of 74, Kathleen still owned and operated McGrath's Motel. Her success lives on. In 2013 she was awarded the Irish American Hospitality Award. She will be missed by her family and her many friends. Surviving are her son; Martin McGrath (Bridget), her four daughters; Eileen Capulli (Adrian), Colleen Fenlon (Dermot), Maura McAleer (Brian) and Katie Franklin, 15 grandchildren, and her siblings; Bertie Devaney, Maureen Finlan, Patrick Devaney & Bernadette Taylor.
