Obituary of George Santamaria

CLIMAX – George Santamaria, Sr., 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 7, 2015 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Brooklyn to the late Anthony and Mary (Sole) Santamaria. He served in both the Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army. Later he met and married his wife of 60 years, Claire Lerch. They lived on Long Island before moving to Germantown where they lived for over 40 years. Through-out his life, George owned and operated his own businesses, first as a boat builder, then as a carpet installer, both with his brother Eugene. After retiring, he made wooden crafts to sell at fairs. He was a huge boxing fan and a lover of animals. He also enjoyed farming and gardening. In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his siblings, Angelina DeSilva, Frank, John, and Eugene Santamaria. George is survived by his beloved wife; his loving children, Anthony Santamaria of Climax, Linda and Ronald McIntosh of Hillsdale, and George and Christine Santamaria Jr. of Schenectady; and his cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Katrina McIntosh, Jacob McIntosh, and Edward and Joseph Santamaria. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
