Obituary of George H. Hood

EARLTON – George H. Hood, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at his residence. Born in Athens on February 15, 1926, he was son of the late George and Nellie Garvey Hood. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign and receiving several decorations. George worked in the construction business for many years, retiring from Wm. J. Keller & Sons in Castleton. He was the chairperson of Boy Scout Troop 42 in Greenville from 1968 to 2013, receiving a 45-year plaque. George was a past member of the Greenville Central School Board of Education and served as President in the early 1970's. He was a charter member and past president of the Earlton Fish & Game Club, and past president of the Albany Soap Box Derby Association. George was a member of Coxsackie United Methodist Church, Greenville American Legion Post 291, Bricklayers Union, past chief and past president of Earlton Volunteer Fire Company. George is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rowbottom Hood; two sons, Gary (Libbie) Hood and Randy Hood, C.P.A.; grand-daughter, Andrea Hood, Esq., her partner, Lucero Martinez and her son, Liam Hood; grand-daughter, Dr. Gwen Hood-Patterson, her husband Mark and their daughter, Grace; grandson, Jonathan Stone, his fiancee, Tiffany Hults and their daughter, Kaelyn Stone; two sisters, Nellie Smith and Louise Wells; nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by siblings, Raymond, Jessie and Violet Hood and Nora Biegel, and grandson, Christopher Stone. George's yellow Labrador and faithful companion, Katie, is waiting for him on the other side of the bridge. Calling hours will be Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by burial in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.
