Obituary of Walter L. Schelling

Walter "Wally" L. Schelling, Jr., known to many as "Uncle Wally" and known to few as "Dirty Wally", age 67, passed away suddenly on October 10, 2015 in Newcomb, NY. He was born on July 5, 1948 in Schenectady, NY. Wally was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the Army from 1969-1972. He also worked for the NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation. He entered the NY State Police in 1974, retiring as a Sergeant in 1995. Wally was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge in Catskill, and also a member of a variety of car clubs. He was an Honorary Member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Company. Wally loved his family and enjoyed being with them whenever possible. He loved his garden in the backyard and making all kinds of recipes. His greatest passion was his Hot Rods. If there was a car show, you would see Wally and his car. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren: fishing, camping, teaching them how to ride go-carts, and watching them play baseball and soccer. Wally was predeceased by his parents, Walter Sr. and Maureen Schelling. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Suzanne; daughter Jenn (Brian) Carrothers; sons, Walter III (Jessica), Scott, Christopher, and Timothy (Kayla); grandchildren, Brian, Joey, Cameron, Sierra, Claire, and Theo; sisters, Dale Bills and Virginia (Wayne) Fahey; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday October 14, 2015 from 4 to 9pm at the A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, NY 12083. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday October 15th at 12:30pm at St. John the Baptist Church 4987 State Route 81, Greenville followed by burial in the Greenville Cemetery.
