Obituary of Mary J. Tiberia

Tiberia, Mary RAVENA – Mary J. Datri Tiberia, 87, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 26, 2015, in the loving arms of her children. Mary was born in Italy on December 18, 1927, daughter of the late Eugenio and Lucia Persico Datri. The family settled in Ravena in 1929, and Mary became part of St. Patrick's parish family. She married Carl W. Tiberia on June 13, 1953 in St. Patrick's Church. In early years, Mary remained at home to raise their three children and thoroughly enjoyed motherhood, while Carl worked to support the family. When the children were grown, Mary became a teacher's aide in the RCS elementary school and retired after 21 years of service. She also worked for many years as a waitress, most notably at the Quarry Steak House in Coxsackie, where she made many very close friends. Mary was a lifelong daily communicant of St. Patrick's Church, where she participated in the bereavement group, Bible study, ministry to the homebound, and many other activities of parish life. Mary is survived by her children, Lawrence Tiberia and his wife, Sissy Andrews, Carol Ann Tiberia and her fiance, John K. Sterrett, and Thomas Tiberia and his wife, Pam; two grandchildren, Grace Ann and Miles Tiberia; her brother, Eugene Datri; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband, Carl on February 26, 1986; infant son, David Andrew Tiberia; and her sister, Amy Scalzo. Calling hours will be Sunday, November 29 from 2 until 5 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 9 Main Street, Ravena. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, November 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, followed by entombment in St. Patrick's Mausoleum, Coeymans.
